The summers in Texas are long and hot and there are many times that sipping on red wine just seems a bit heavy for my palate. In this series I will give you some tips on some of my favorite white wines to sip on as well as some of my favorite bubbly.
I don't know about you but if I'm going to be out on a boat or some such water related event in the heat of summer, I want a nice, crisp, white wine that I can sip that's not too acidic or buttery. For the first sippin wine favorite, let's bring on the Sauvignon Blancs.
Although anyone that knows me knows that the Pinot Noir grape is hands down, my favorite grape, during the long, hot summer evenings, there is nothing like a crisp glass of Sauvignon Blanc to watch the sunset with.
Some of my favorite light, summery, sipping wines are come from the Sauvignon Blanc grape and are typically made in the New Zealand region of the world. I have several favorites but I will list three here from least expensive to the most expensive:
“Although anyone that knows me knows that the Pinot Noir grape is hands down, my favorite grape, during the long, hot summer evenings, there is nothing like a crisp glass of Sauvignon Blanc to watch the sunset with. ”
Matua Sauvignon Blanc is quite delicious, and one on the top of my list. Bursting with citrus notes with just a hint of grapefruit and basil. It's made in Marlborough, New Zealand and Wine Spectator gave it 90 points in 2017.
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc is crisp and lite and refreshing on hot summer evenings. Also made in Marlborough the 2016 is rated 4 stars and is an excellent mid range price wine.
Cloud Bay Sauvignon Blanc shows an abundance of passion fruit, lime, grapefruit with just the right amount of grassiness. Another from the Marlborough region, this wine is exceptional and at a price point of about $30.00 - $35.00 a bottle, it's a Taylor do!
Cheers my friends!
